In February we kicked off our Outreach Season by partnering with Love Your Neighbor to help a family who was in serious need of home repairs and who’s home exterior needed some TLC.

“Rocky Balboa” has grown to be one of my all time favorite movies. Definitely my favorite Rocky movie of all time (and I love all of them… except #5). The scene below is a one of the main reasons why I love this film so much, and the message this scene carries is hard hitting for me. (pun maybe intended) Watch this scene and then check out my thoughts.
You might notice that Rocky is wearing a “Dempsey” t-shirt under his jacket. Former Heavyweight Champion Jack Dempsey once said:
“A champion is someone who gets up, even when he can’t.”
I find my strength is Jesus Christ. When life has been been hard, I have learned that I need to rest and rely on Him to get me through. It’s called perseverance.
Romans 5:3-5 3Not only so, but we[a] also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 4perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.
There’s this continual process that God uses and allows to help shape and mold us into the person he wants us to be, and that process is called LIFE. We have the choice to stay down for the count and or get up and keep fighting, but we can’t think for one second that the strength that we use comes from us or from “within”, it comes from God.
When you are suffering, when you’re in pain, don’t throw in the towel. Tighten those boot straps, put the mouth guard back in, get up before the 10-count, and put up those dukes. The round ain’t over. He has a whole lot more fight left in YOU.
I’m re-reading Killing Cockroaches by Tony Morgan this week. It’s a great read on leadership. I’ll probably re-review here soon, in the mean time check out this video. It’s a great way to see what this book is all about.
In just a few weeks we’ll be celebrating 3-years of serving Spring Hill at Crosspoint. It’s hard to believe it’s been 3! Somedays it feels like a short bit of time and some days I feel like I’ve been doing this forever… the truth is however, there is NOTHING like. And there’s no where else I’d rather be!
Wayne Cordova is a pastor at Crosspoint Church in Spring Hill, FL where he focuses on Communicating, Outreach & Service, Graphic Design, and much much more!
He also likes Piña Coladas and getting caught in the rain.
