Just wrapped up reading “The Dip” by Seth Godin. Here are some of the “nuggets” I took away from reading it.
“Winners quit all the time. They just quit the right stuff at the right time.”
“Extraordinary benefits acrue to the tiny minority of people who are able to push just a tiny bit longer than most.”
“Extraordinary benefits also accrue to the tiny majority with the guts to quit early and refocus their efforts on something new.”
“The people who are the best in the world specialize at getting really good at the questions they don’t know.”
“The Dip is the long stretch between beginner’s luck and real accompishment.”
“It’s not enough to survive your way through this Dip. You get what you deserve when you embrace the Dip and treat it like the opportunity it really is.”
“Quitting is difficult. Quitting requires you to acknowledge that you’re never going to be #1 in the world. At least not at this.”
“Quitting in the Dip though, isn’t worth the journey.”
“Your strategy – to be a trusted source in your chosen market – can survive even if your product is canceled.”
“Quitting is not the same thing as failing.”
“Strategic quitting is a conscious decision you make based on the choices that are available to you.”
“If pride is the only thing keeping you from quitting, if there’s no Dip to get through, you’re likely wasting an enormous amount of time and money defending something that will heal pretty quickly.”
“It’s almost impossible to overinvest in becoming the market leader.”
The Dip was a quick but fascinating read. If you are building a strategy for success take a look at this book… it’s not just about quitting, it’s about leading smart. The Dip

SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY!
Crosspoint Church celebrated 3 YEARS of serving Spring Hill on Sunday and it was amazing!
Chris Fickley created an amazing and moving video that told a wonderful story of life-change… very God-honoring and yup, I was crying in the back row!
The video will be posted here shortly…
I am continually blown away by the generosity of God’s people.
Giving NEVER slowed down the Kingdom of God.
The stories I heard over and over of how God has provided in people’s lives and how he has healed and restored marriages is the kind of stuff I NEVER get tired of.
Ended my evening by watching the Yankees SWEEP the Red Sox… that’s also something I NEVER get tired of…
“Rocky Balboa” has grown to be one of my all time favorite movies. Definitely my favorite Rocky movie of all time (and I love all of them… except #5). The scene below is a one of the main reasons why I love this film so much, and the message this scene carries is hard hitting for me. (pun maybe intended) Watch this scene and then check out my thoughts.
You might notice that Rocky is wearing a “Dempsey” t-shirt under his jacket. Former Heavyweight Champion Jack Dempsey once said:
“A champion is someone who gets up, even when he can’t.”
I find my strength is Jesus Christ. When life has been been hard, I have learned that I need to rest and rely on Him to get me through. It’s called perseverance.
Romans 5:3-5 3Not only so, but we[a] also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 4perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.
There’s this continual process that God uses and allows to help shape and mold us into the person he wants us to be, and that process is called LIFE. We have the choice to stay down for the count and or get up and keep fighting, but we can’t think for one second that the strength that we use comes from us or from “within”, it comes from God.
When you are suffering, when you’re in pain, don’t throw in the towel. Tighten those boot straps, put the mouth guard back in, get up before the 10-count, and put up those dukes. The round ain’t over. He has a whole lot more fight left in YOU.
I’m re-reading Killing Cockroaches by Tony Morgan this week. It’s a great read on leadership. I’ll probably re-review here soon, in the mean time check out this video. It’s a great way to see what this book is all about.
@ChrisElrod nor many cool cars like that on the road. Everything has to be "safe" & "functional" OH & I almost forgot "fuel efficient"! Ugh. in reply to ChrisElrod#
First off I spent the entire weekend either tripping, stubbing, slipping, rolling, or hitting my feet, toes, ankles, and shins! I think God was teaching me to look where I walk.
Friday is my Saturday… I love every minute of them. This one was no different!
We spent Friday baby sitting Keegan Riley Castelli, PaulCastelli’s baby girl. It was fun playing with her and playing house with Tina. Barkley and She-Ra liked her too… they thought she was delicious!
Netflix is making BIG TIME money off of me! We have had the same movie for 2 months and we still haven’t watched it!
Instead we rented one from HD-On Demand… Not what we expected. Chick Flicks have NO NEED to be in Hi-Definition!
Saturday started off great! We partnered with the CCA (Christian Contractors Association) to help paint the home of a needy family in the area. Once again, the people of Crosspoint wowed me with their faithfulness and diligence in getting the task done! I’ll post more about this project later.
I decided to take more pictures this time around and did way less work than I’m used to… and believe me, the work crew did NOT let me forget it! No mercy!
Funny thing, I managed to nap through a noisy baby on Friday but I couldn’t sleep through a whiney puppy on Saturday.
Caught the Rays vs. Royals game at the Trop with The Russ Family and Kip and his nephew Jacob. Had a blast at the game, and we didn’t spend a fortune either!
Daughtry was in concert after the game… it took over an hour for the concert to start because the set-up crew couldn’t get their act together! (They should have had the Crosspoint crew doing it!)
I wanted to stay for the end of the concert to hear them sing “Home” (which is the only song of their’s that I know!) But I was beat and needed to preach so we went… home.
Sunday Sunday Sunday!
“UP” has been my favorite series that I have preached in a long time! We switched it into the calendar a couple of months ago and it grew to be a powerful and life-changing message series.
We were WAY short handed today, we still haven’t perfected how to handle absenses (both planned and unplanned) but in true Crosspoint fashion, our crew stepped up it’s game and it turned out beautiful.
Got to catch the latest Baptism video… I’m blown away at the lives that are being changed for Jesus here at Crosspoint. Thank you God!
Tough conversations are supposed to be just that. TOUGH. I don’t like them, but the end result (if done correctly) can really become a blessing.
Tina and I conquered Sam’s and got a ton of supplies necessary for Crosspoint’s 3rd Anniversary Baptism Celebration! Getting ready just got me STOKED for this event!
Holiness, not happiness,is life's goal.To grow thru problems.dont ask WHY? Ask WHAT do U want me to learn? Rom8:28-29 (via @RickWarren) in reply to RickWarren#
Great morning at Crosspoint! Two powerful services… So grateful for the volunteers that help set the stage for the message to be heard! #
Your character will feed your conduct no matter what your circumstances may be. #
RT @chrisguillebeau: sign on psychic's door in my neighborhood: "Sundays by appt. only" – but wouldn't she know when someone was coming? #
